Thrift shop finds!

I found a lot of goodies over the last couple days! I got some good deals too. I can’t wait to have a house to decorate with all my goodies. For now I’m basically just hoarding stuff that I probably won’t have room for in my house. I’ll cross that bridge when I get there. I’ll post under each picture about the item.

I got this amazing lamp for $2 which was a great buy! I plan to have it in my entry when I have my own place. I’m going to put this on a timer so I have a light on when I come home. I need to find a skinnier kind of long shade for it. I always find awesome lamps, but they never have shades or the shade doesn’t work at all!

A shot of the top of the lamp I got. This is one of my favorite lamps I have.

I got this great pitcher! I could see some Tulips spilling over the edge of it. I paid $2 for this

I got this little picture for $1. I’m not a religious person, but find religion very interesting. I enjoy reading about all religions and beliefs. I really love the style of this.

I got three of these punch cups for 10 cents each. I’m going to make candles with herbs or flower petals and put them in here to sell. They will be so cute because you can see the petals in herbs through the sides.

I got this punch cup also for 10 cents. It just waits a candle inside it.

I love learning new stuff. This looks like an interesting read. Lots of good info in here. I paid $1 for this.

I love gardening and plants. I have a good size collection of Cacti, Succulents, and some Tropical plants. Expect so many gardening posts when I have a place to actually garden! The top one has some good inspiration in it. $2.50 for both of these.

Three new cookbooks I got. I love using tofu in cooking. It’s a great source of protein and can be used in any cuisine I think. Most people who say they don’t like it just don’t know  how to cook it. It’s basically a carrier for the flavors you want to cook with. The other two looked like they had some good recipes in them. All together these were $7.

Blog changes!

I’ve changed some stuff on my blog. The first thing I did was change the name from “DuckyLayne” to “Grow.Eat.Create.Love”. I’ve done this because I’m merging a couple blogs together to have less to keep up with. This will result in more posts here too. The name fits my life too. This has been my Instagram name for awhile now if you want to follow me on there. I’ll be merging this blog, my gardening blog, and art blog together. I’m trying to par down in everything in my life. I’ve got lots of big plans in the near future for this blog. I’m going to also start sharing recipes and DIY tutorials. I love to cook! I’m working on a way to make money while on the road so I can start traveling. I’m going to re do an old school bus to make it into a traveling home for me and my Basset Hound Lucy.

Much love!!!

Thrift shop haul!

It’s been awhile since I got to go thrifting. Yesterday my mom and I decided to go grab my grandma and kit the shops! I found several amazing finds and I’m glad I didn’t miss out on these treasures. I’ll be moving into my own place in March and can’t wait to start decorating and sharing the journey of decorating my own apartment. I love my parents, but I miss having my own place. Lets get into what I found! Enjoy!

I found this huge old trunk in the second shop we hit. I love the colors and I plan to leave it just like this. Some people think I’m crazy and that I should paint it. I love the wear and tear on it. It has SO much character. The inside is pretty much in perfect shape except one spot where someone drew a star at one point. It even has the original shelf inside! I forgot to take a photo of the inside though. When I get my place I will give you a look inside. I think I got a deal at $30.

I got this pair of Oriental vases at the first shop we hit. I couldn’t pass them up. I wish the lions on top were closer to the same shade of blue. Besides that I love everything about them. I plan to flank my grandmother’s hutch she gave me with these. I adore blue and white pottery.  These are around 2 1/2 feet tall. I couldn’t pass them up for $12 each.

Here’s another vase I got at the first shop too. This one is about a foot tall. I didn’t have enough money to buy the other one that matches this one or I would of. I hope I can get the other one. I still need to find a buffet and when I do this will go on it. If I don’t get the other one this one will go in the center. If I do get it then they will go on each end. $8 for this one.

Just a top view of the smaller one I got.

And lastly I found this amazing painting. I’m an artist myself, but I appreciate other artist’s work and like to collect it to mix in with my own on my walls. The picture does not do justice for the colors in this piece!

That was my haul, at least what I could find. I have a couple more things I bought, but I’m not sure where they are at. I didn’t get a photo of the folding chair I got. I can share that when I start decorating!

Much love!!!

Thrift shop bounty!

I went thrifting again. I found some neat stuff too. I didn’t get pictures of everything before I put it in storage unfortunately. I should be moving into my own apartment soon, so I can share then. I went to 6 different ones today in three different towns. I also got something out of the recycling when I was dropping mine off. It was an all day adventure! Enjoy!

I got a pair of these awesome retro lamps. Perfect shape. They were originally $20 for the pair, but lamps were half off today. I got them pair for $10. They shades don’t go with them at all! I’ll have to find shades that work with them. The shades that came with them were in good shape, so I’ll hang on to them for now until I can find ones that look better. They would look good with lamps that were more victorian and intricate. I just adore these!

20151215_115827.jpg

I’m obsessed with ginger jars. This one is quite large. It didn’t have a lid, but I thought I could use it for a vase or put some cool reeds in it or something. If I find a black lid that fits it one day even better! I just couldn’t pass it up for $3. It’s about twice the size of a gallon of milk if that gives you any reference. This is the biggest one I’ve gotten so far.

20151215_164848.jpg

I got these two shirts and pair of shoes also. They will be good for Spring.

20151215_115856.jpg

I think this candle stick is grand. I love all the ornate details. Needs cleaned up some, but it’s not broke anywhere like usual. every time I see candle sticks at thrift store with all the little pieces like this they are broke somewhere. I paid $2.50 for it. It’s quite hefty too actually.

20151215_121226.jpg

I found this material also. It’s foot wide pieces that are around five feet long. There was four of them for 50 cents each. Not sure what I will do with them just yet. I loved the colors though.

20151215_121638.jpg

This is a vintage globe for a light fixture that would of hung from the ceiling. It’s quite large actually. It’s atleast 18 inches across maybe more. It has three holes in it where you would of fastened it to the fixture. I’m going to get some chain and use it as a bird bath though. I’ll bring it inside during the colder month’s though. It’s very thick glass.

20151215_164940.jpg

I got these five books also. Three are cook books. The other two are regular books. The one cook book I have been searching for. “Mastering the Art of French Cooking” by Julia Childs, Louisette Bertholle, and Simone Beck. Even had the dust cover in decent shape. It’s the one with the blue spine. Another of the books I got that I found interesting was called “Living on the Earth” Very intriquing cover.

20151215_173643.jpg

This is the “Living on the Earth” book. The cover was just so interesting. The inside is just like the cover. Little doodles and the words look hand written not typed. It just looked like something I needed in my book collection.

Here’s my recycling center find. I went to drop off my plastic stuff and left with these three bottles that were sitting on top of the glass stuff. They are Tequila bottles, but I loved the shape. Not sure what I will do with them just yet. My mom had a good idea to use them for flavored oil. They Tequila spelled like pretty good Tequila, so I might have to buy and bottle to try. Not a big Tequila drinker, but I like to cook with it. The glass even has little  bubbles in it.

I found other stuff, but forgot to get pictures before I put it in storage.

Washing basin to serving dish.

Hello dears! I found this washing basin at the Thrift store I visit several times a week. It would of originally had a matching pitcher that went with it. They were used to wash up, shave, etc when they didn’t have running water. They usually have a floral pattern on them. I like that this one was a solid color with a simple pattern around the rim. I only paid $5 for it which I think is a deal for how big it is. I plan to use it as a serving dish for salads or pasta. I think a bunch of pasta with pesto sauce would look amazing in it. Maybe some spaghetti and meatballs. I think some people get caught up in something having a certain purpose. Just because something was made to be used for a certain thing doesn’t mean you have to use it for that. Think about stuff you see and what it could be used for besides what it was meant for. It’s a great way to express yourself.

Upper shot of basin. I love the simple pattern going around the rim!

This is going to be a great serving dish!

These two serving utensils were actually sitting in the basin when I bought it. They were only $1 for the pair, so I got them too. I almost didn’t. I then noticed they had a tribal look to them. I love tribal stuff. I think they actually look amazing with the basin. Here’s a picture of them together!

I actually have a pitcher that would of went with one of these basins. It’s Pink and has a floral pattern on it. I use it for a vase though. It looks wonderful filled with tulips. I love using vintage/antique pitchers as vases.

Introductions!

Hello mister’s and misterette’s! My name is Jason and this is just a short post about what this blog will be all about. This blog will be about home decor, thrift store finds for my home, and DIY’s. I’m a creative soul and very worldly in my decorating style. That’s what my best friend calls it anyway. I don’t like to stay in one style. I love vintage stuff and weird things that most think “Really?”. I hope you like my blog and don’t hesitate to say if you think something else would look better or and thoughts you might have.

Much love!!!
